Das Weinviertel ist mit 500mm Jahresniederschlagsmenge eines der trockensten Weinbaugebiete der Welt. Und damit auch eines der Sonnenreichsten.
Der kontinentale Einfluss und die daraus resultierenden klaren, kühlen Herbstnächte verhindern eine vorzeitige Veratmung der Aromastoffe in den Traubenbeeren. Die Herbste sind meist auch sehr trocken, wodurch es nur in Ausnahmejahren (wie 1998 und 2001) zu einem verstärkten Auftreten von Botrytis (Fäulnis) auf den Trauben kommt. Das ermöglicht uns die Produktion von fruchtbetonten Weißweinen und charaktervollen Rotweinen.
Due to a pannonical influence the Weinviertel region is the driest area of the province of Lower Austria. Hours of sun are as plenty as they are in typical sunny Austrian regions such as in the Southern part of Carinthia and the South-Eastern part of Styria. In Austria, temperatures climb to the highest levels in the eastern part of the Weinviertel region.
The influence of the continental climate and the consequent clear, cool autumn nights avoid an early compression of aroma components in the grapes. Autumns are usually very dry, which avoids increased occurrings of Botrytis (decay) in the grapes. This gives us the chance to produce white wines rich in fruit aromas and discrete red wines.
